Chaos in Review: Week of September 30

Not quite focused. That was me last week!

I think I’ll start posting a quick review of how things went in our household the week before. Sometimes I get so stuck looking at one big problem in our lives that I miss the successes in other areas, so it’s good for me to look at the big picture.  Also, that way I can share the little things that don’t really warrant a whole blog post.

Last week went pretty well, mostly attributable to the fact that we had only three days of school. Having this long break was nice. Even though it’s virtual online school at home, the week still gets pretty hectic with schedules, therapy, and other activities. Unfortunately, I spent most of the time off not feeling well, so the four-day weekend wasn’t as productive as I’d hoped it would be.

What went well:

  • M-bug had an appointment with her developmental pediatrician on Tuesday. He was pleased with how she’s doing, and we’re keeping her on the same low dose of ADHD medication that she’s been on for a year now. We still didn’t get out of the office without her tearing up the paper on the exam table, but at least it wasn’t completely in shreds this time. I’m not sure why she thinks that’s so funny.
  • I had a final phone interview with the organization that determines eligibility and budgets for the Health and Welfare Department of Children’s Developmental Disabilities, and it went well. I got M-bug’s acceptance letter on Wednesday, with a budget that made my eyeballs almost pop out. This is in addition to other medical services, such as Speech/Language, Occupational Therapy, and Physical Therapy, so I’m extremely relieved and blessed. And thankful to my friend Julie, without whom none of this would have gone smoothly.
  • Two days off of school! I wish I could say I got lots of laundry done, but I didn’t. We just rested, and ran a few errands, and that’s OK. I got a bunch of details out of the way for this year’s Living Christmas Tree, so that felt good.

What didn’t go so well:

  • Bubbles has it in her head to make a youtube video of her Littlest Pet Shop toys, and in her “practicing” with my old camera she used up about $8 worth of AA batteries. I didn’t realize it until I looked in the battery drawer Saturday. Really???
  • Lapbooks for social studies and science are taking longer to make than I’d anticipated, and I’m afraid the girls are getting behind curriculum-wise. I need to figure out a way to make the “information gathering” part of the projects easier and quicker.
  • I had three migraines last week, and five total in the past two weeks, plus a few tension headaches. This is after not having a migraine since June or so, so it’s extremely strange. It might be attributed to trying out new contact lenses. I hope it takes care of itself soon because it’s becoming debilitating. It’s making me dizzy, and considering I already have labyrinthitis, that’s not a good thing.

That about wraps it up. Hope this week goes well for us and everyone!

Hey super woman – thanks for the good press. YOU did all the hard work. Maybe your migraines are from thinking so much, dotting i’s, crossing t’s, making sure you have a copy of this that and the other thing, and finally delivering your paperwork to H&W, akin to giving birth au naturale! My brain hurts when I’ve finished with something for Noah. Then, I want to sleep for days. You know, really sleep – the kind of zzz’s ya get without waking up every 2 or 3 hours sweating what it is you have to do tomorrow to keep the balls in the air, and thinking what on earth did I with my cape anyway.

Now, ’bout them headaches. When exactly was your last chiropractic visit?

So good seeing you the fam yesterday. I’ll have my people call your people to arrange our next soire’! :)

Love ya girl,

Jule

Well, I’m still taking you to lunch. ;)

Went to the chiropractor last Thursday. Didn’t really get dizzy until after that, but had the headaches a good while before. Ugh.

My hatred for headaches is well documented. Yikes. Not sure which is worse — a couple of four-day marathons, or every-other-day repeats. No good in that at all.

On the laundry front — we just got five huge boxes of little girl clothes. I seriously think my two girls could go a couple months without clean laundry now, and if it were at a season or size transition, maybe three months. If it weren’t for the fact that the dirty smelly blech would overrun the house, I might be cool with that!

I hear you, both with respect to the headaches and the laundry. Sometimes having too many clothes can be a bad thing.
