Life, Interrupted: An Announcement

Well, it’s been a looooong time since I’ve posted anything. Sometimes life just gets so crazy, especially around the holidays. For our family, the holiday chaos starts with our involvement in our church’s annual Living Christmas Tree. It’s a huge production, and as a member of the executive production team, I practically live at church from mid-November through the first week of December. After that, I crash for a week, and then I try to start digging myself out of mountains of laundry, usually fighting a cold at the same time.

This year has been a little different. Since this last summer, Decoder Man and I have been taking a long look at what we want in the future for our family, our kids’ educations, and his career. He’s had a very good job as a software engineer at a successful company in Boise for the last eight years, and while he’s enjoyed it, he’s at the point in his career where he wants to learn more and be in charge of projects, etc. There’s not really anything like that in our area right now, so we made the decision to start looking elsewhere — to dream that we could have a different life.

The Big Announcement

Fast forward to December, and here we are with a big announcement: we’re moving! Within three weeks Decoder Man will be moving to Austin, Texas, to work at a software company that designs programs for the health care industry. The girls and I will follow in the next couple months, depending on what happens with our house (sell? rent?).

In many ways it’s a heart-wrenching decision, because we’re very entrenched here in our church, my sister is here, and we have lots of people we care about. But we both feel it’s what God has planned for our family. Decoder Man will have more opportunities to grow in his career, and there are lots of opportunities for the girls educationally, socially, and therapy-wise. The whole process has been stressful, and definitely added to the already hectic craziness of working on the Living Christmas Tree, which I am going to miss dreadfully.

There are so many unknowns, and I never do well with unknowns. Or with details that at the moment have no … well, details. I don’t have any idea what to expect, where we’re going to live, how I’ll survive the late summer weather, how our new budget will work out, etc. One of the biggest questions is how the girls are going to be schooled, and while I’m 95% sure I have that one pinned down, I’m still waiting to make sure it feels right.

Lots of things have happened in the lives of my girls in the last couple months, and I’m still planning to share them with you. So hang with me … I’ll get there. Once I get my laundry done.

Back to being unfocused for awhile!
